Stepping Into the Unknown was a book I designed in the Spring of 2016 in response to an assignment pertaining to three essays by Josef Albers, Sōetsu Yanagi, and Jonathan Foers, respectively. The essays touched on themes I found prevalent in science fiction (creation, exploration, and discovery,) so I used imagery from old pulp covers to convey them. The book was set in Century Schoolbook, a typeface used in actual pulp fiction paperbacks of the era.
The cover was designed to include a full-wraparound cover slip. The slip must be removed to open the book, revealing more slivers of colorful pulp fiction illustration underneath.
The following images are spreads from interior of the book.
